A Bit About NZ!
11 October 2002 Share
When we were in New Orleans for the ARA show in February we were struck by the level
of patriotism evident among Americans.Your pride in your country is admirable.
Here in New Zealand we are also proud of our heritage. Here are some things about us "Kiwis" you may not have known:
Our population is only 3.8 million, kind of like a small US city. That's a problem at times economically and for a business like ours it can be difficult to operate on a scale large enough for overseas markets. [Last year 80% of our chair production was exported]
NZ is the current holder of the Americas Cup, the world's richest sailing competition. We first won it in 1995 from the San Diego Yacht Club, retained it in 1999 and this week the first races began in Auckland which will lead to "Team NZ's" second defence of the cup in early 2003. This is a big event for NZ and a record number of syndicates are competing including 3 from the US. If you catch a broadcast look out for teams and support crews sitting on ALLOYFOLD chairs!
Last month our National Basketball Team, the "Tall Blacks" made sporting history by finishing fourth in the world at the Basketball World Champs held in Indiana. This was unprecedented for our tiny country, especially since the USA [minus top players] finished 7th.
Lastly, did you know that New Zealand produces the only Aluminum folding chair of its type and quality in the world. The ALLOYFOLD chair has a 10 year track record with NZ and Australian rental companies and now a two year history in the US.
